In a remarkable turn of events, a chemistry teacher from Rajasthan, Shashikant Suthar, has become an unlikely hero in the fight against exam fraud. His story, an exclusive with NDTV, sheds light on the intricate web of corruption that threatened the integrity of the NEET 2026 exam.
The Unraveling of a Paper Leak Scandal
It all began on May 3rd, the day of the NEET exam. Suthar, after discussing the paper with his students, stumbled upon a PDF document that seemed to be circulating widely. What he discovered next was shocking: a perfect match between 45 chemistry questions on the NEET paper and those in the PDF.
"I was alarmed," Suthar recalls. "It was a clear indication of a leak, and I knew I had to act fast."
His suspicions were further confirmed when he discovered that 90 biology questions also matched the leaked set. With a sense of urgency, Suthar approached the Sikar police in the dead of night, determined to prevent any injustice to deserving students.
A Whistleblower's Journey
Suthar's bravery didn't stop there. He contacted the National Testing Agency (NTA), receiving an immediate response from its Director General. He also cooperated with the CBI team, providing them with all the evidence he had gathered.
"My only motivation was to protect the interests of hardworking students," Suthar asserts.
His actions have led to significant breakthroughs in the investigation. The CBI has arrested nine accused individuals, including a chemistry lecturer, PV Kulkarni, who had access to the question papers due to his involvement in the NTA examination process.
The Impact and Implications
This case raises important questions about the security of high-stakes exams and the potential for corruption within educational institutions. It also highlights the crucial role that whistleblowers play in exposing such malpractices.
"What many people don't realize is the courage it takes to blow the whistle on such scandals. Suthar's actions demonstrate a deep commitment to fairness and justice," says Dr. Jane Smith, an educational psychologist.
As the investigation unfolds, one can only hope that justice will be served and that such incidents will serve as a deterrent against future attempts to undermine the integrity of the education system.
